Newsletter: New Outreach in Vallececa Finishes Season
At the end of March, 2008, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth ventured a new ministry of presence and prayer in the small Italian town of Vallececa. From Spring and into early Autumn, seventeen sisters from both Roman houses took turns spending weekends with the residents and visitors who came to Vallececa and the surrounding towns for vacation, or with those who were just passing through and stopped to see the Shrine of the Holy Trinity. For our Sisters, this experimental ministry proved to be a true experience of Italian people, their customs and culture, their language, a new dialect, and a wonderful encounter with the beauty of nature.
Twice, during these months, large crowds from neighboring towns gathered at the Shrine, first, for the special Liturgy welcoming the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, and then again, on the Feast of the Holy Trinity, paying their homage to the Patron of this tiny church. Although the expected number of visitors never materialized, the Sisters were there throughout, offering a welcoming and prayerful presence to guests and locals alike. The people of Vallececa were happy to have the Sisters with them during these months. They are hoping that this ministry will continue in the future.
