Two Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth (CSFN), Sr. Angela Kissiwaa from the Abesim Community and Sr. Scholastica Maria from the Yamfo Community, participated in an in-person media training programme organized by the Catholic Sister Communicators Network, Ghana (CASCON-GH).
The training took place at Santasi Christian Village from July 29 to August 2, 2026 and brought together about 40 Sisters from 22 different Religious Congregations.
The programme aimed at equipping Catholic sisters with practical skills in media communication, website management, photography, videography, interviewing, reporting and story writing.
The two Sisters arrived at Santasi Christian Village on July 29 where they were welcomed and shown to their rooms.
After settling in, they unpacked and prepared for the sessions that would begin the following day.
Website Management and Ethics
On July 30, the Sisters began the day with the Office of Readings in the chapel, followed by Holy Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Andrew, SJ.
The morning session focused on website management and ethics. The Sisters were introduced to the basics of managing a website and learned about the different icons and features found on a website.
The facilitators also explained the importance of having a website as a platform through which congregations can share their mission, activities, achievements and stories with a wider audience.
The session was facilitated by Mr. Eric Coco Mawuenyegah, Mr. Derrick Attistsogui and Mr. Damian Avevor.
Photography, Videography and Interview Techniques
The training also included practical sessions on photography and videography, where the Sisters learned how to handle cameras, take quality photographs and videos, and edit their work according to their needs.
The excitement reached another level when each participating Congregation received a Canon digital camera.
It was a memorable moment as the sisters eagerly unwrapped their cameras and immediately began experimenting with them by taking photographs.
The Sisters were also introduced to interview techniques and reporting. They learned how to conduct interviews and develop stories using the five Ws and H — What, When, Where, Why, Who and How.
They were encouraged to ensure that their stories have a clear audience and purpose and, most importantly, that they do not leave their stories hanging.
The interview session was facilitated by Ms. Jennifer Kwakye Akuamoah, while Mr. Derrick Attistsogui facilitated the photography session on July 31, 2026.
As part of the practical work, the Sisters were divided into four groups and given different topics to research, write reports on and conduct interviews about.
This provided them with the opportunity to put into practice the skills they had acquired during the training.
Learning Through Practice
The final sessions on August 1 focused mainly on the practical aspects of photography, videography, story writing, editing, interviewing and reporting.
The Sisters had the opportunity to practise what they had learned during the previous sessions and explore different ways of telling meaningful stories through the media.
It was both an exciting and educative experience as the sisters discovered new skills and gained greater confidence in using media tools to communicate their experiences and the mission of their congregations.
Beyond the formal training sessions, the programme also provided an opportunity for the sisters to interact and socialize with other Religious Sisters from different Congregations.
Through these interactions, they shared experiences, exchanged ideas and learned from one another.
For the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth, the training was not only about learning how to use cameras, websites and other media tools. It was also about discovering new ways of giving a voice to the mission of Nazareth and telling the stories of the congregation to the world.
Through the skills gained at CASCON-GH, Sr. Angela Kissiwaa and Sr. Scholastica Maria return to their communities better equipped to communicate, document and share the beautiful stories of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth through the voice of the media.
